David Owen
David Owen (*1938) is a British doctor and politician, former Foreign Secretary under James Callaghan (1977-1979) and co-founder and leader of the Social Democratic Party (SDP). He was a member of the House of Commons from 1966 to 1992 and a non-party Life Peer in the House of Lords until 2024. Owen distinguished himself with independent positions on foreign, European and health policy and was committed to nuclear disarmament and international security.
