The Progress Foundation respects your privacy. The protection of your privacy when processing personal data and the security of all personal data are important to us. In this privacy policy, we inform you about which of your data we process, what we need this data for and how you can object to data processing.
We only collect, process and store personal data in accordance with the statutory provisions or if you have given us your consent to do so, for example when registering for our conferences and workshops or as a patron.
Data collection and use
We only collect personal data in connection with our relationship with you. This includes, in particular, your contact details such as surname, first name, address, telephone number and e-mail address, both for participants in our conferences and workshops and for patrons. Information that cannot be linked to your identity, on the other hand, is not considered personal data.
How do we collect personal data?
We collect personal data in the following cases: When you register for our conferences and workshops, when you become a patron of our foundation, when you communicate directly with us. In all cases, we process your personal data exclusively for the specific purpose that is recognizable to you.
Disclosure of your data
As a matter of principle, we do not pass on your personal data to other third parties. There are exceptions for a few processes. This is the case, for example, when we have mailings carried out by third parties, e.g. printers.
External service providers who process data on our behalf are obliged to comply with the relevant security regulations in accordance with the Federal Data Protection Act. We have ensured that the external service providers have a data protection declaration. They may also only transfer the processing of personal data to a third party with our prior approval and by guaranteeing the security precautions. As part of our business activities, we also disclose data to third parties abroad where permitted and necessary.
How long do we store your personal data?
We generally store your data for as long as our business relationship with you requires it or we have a legitimate interest in storing it. In all other cases, we delete your personal data with the exception of data that we must continue to store in order to fulfill legal obligations (e.g. due to statutory retention periods).
What data is processed when you use our website?
In principle, you can visit our website without having to provide any personal data. When you visit our website, our servers temporarily store every access in a log file. The following technical data is recorded:
- Date and time of access
- Website from which the access was made, if applicable with the search term used
- Name and URL of the retrieved file
- Search queries carried out
- The operating system of your computer (provided by the user agent)
- Browser used by you (provided by the user agent)
- Device type in the case of access by cell phone
- Transmission protocol used
- IP address
- The collection and processing of this data is used for system security and stability and for error and performance analysis as well as for internal statistical purposes and enables us to optimize our website.
- The IP address is also used to preset the language of the website. Finally, we use cookies, applications and tools when you visit our website. You can find more information on this in the following section.
What are cookies and when are they used?
Cookies are small text files or text information that are stored on your computer when you visit our website. If you visit the site again, your browser sends the content of the cookies back to us, enabling us to recognize you. The evaluation of cookies enables us to optimize our website for you and make it easier for you to use. The Progress Foundation uses cookies on its website solely as a technical tool and does not use cookie data for marketing purposes.

However, disabling cookies may mean that individual functions of our website are no longer available to you. How are tracking tools used?
Tracking tools are web analysis services that use cookies and enable us to evaluate the use of the website. These are services in which all data is anonymized. We need statistical information about the use of our online offering in order to make it more user-friendly, measure reach and conduct market research. We use web analysis tools for this purpose. The user profiles created by these tools with the help of analysis cookies are not merged with personal data. The tools either do not use users’ IP addresses at all or shorten them immediately after collection.
In addition to the data listed above (see “What data is processed when you use our website? “), we receive the following information:
- Navigation path that a visitor takes on the website
- Time spent on the website or subpage
- Subpage on which the website is left
- Country, region or city from where access is made
- End device (type, version, color depth, resolution, width and height of the browser window)
- Returning or new visitor
- The information is used to analyze the use of the website. As explained in the previous section, you can prevent the creation of user profiles altogether by generally deactivating the use of cookies.
Social media
You will find links or plug-ins to various social networks on our website. Clicking on the links opens the corresponding social media pages, to which this privacy policy does not apply. For details of the provisions applicable there, please refer to the corresponding data privacy statements on the websites of the respective providers.
No personal information is transmitted to the respective providers before the corresponding link or plug-in is called up. Your accessing the linked page is also the basis for data processing by the respective provider.
Your rights in relation to your personal data
You have the right to receive information about your personal data stored by us at any time. You also have the right to have this data corrected, blocked or deleted. If you have given us your consent to process your data, you can revoke this at any time with effect for the future.
Data security
We use suitable technical and organizational security measures to protect your personal data stored by us against manipulation, loss and unauthorized access by third parties.
Amendment of this privacy policy
We reserve the right to amend and supplement this declaration at any time at our discretion and in accordance with data protection legislation. The current version published on our website shall apply.
