Without the freedom to search and research, there can be no economic and social innovation. The freedom of research is threatened by the demand for politically correct language and attacked by uninhibited, increasingly anonymous aggression on social media.
The Progress Foundation workshop was therefore entitled «Disrupted discussion culture – in the clutches of political correctness». To set the scene, the participants read various classic and contemporary texts by Romano Guardini, Jonathan Haidt, Axel Honneth and Eckhard Jesse, among others. These served as the basis for a completely open discussion among the participants.
The productive liveliness of the workshop and the resulting breadth of thought have – we hope – been captured in the book «Speak and Let Speak». Despite the diversity of the contributions, the publication is based on the conviction that in a liberal democracy, the principle of “speak and let speak” must not be shaken.
