Freedom and Progress
In Search of a Common Denominator
The texts address various issues in the tension between what is technically or economically feasible and what is humanly beneficial. They are all based on the conviction that only open societies, based on private property and competition, allow and promote progress. Freedom thus becomes the basis for innovation and change in all areas, be it technology, economic and social policy or the organisation of government and administration. The interplay between the public and private sectors, the state, the market and other institutions, such as churches or informal rules of co-existence, is therefore central to safeguarding both freedom and progress.
