It is the widespread speechlessness that contributes to the growth of fear. This volume attempts to talk about fear without being afraid. The aim is to ensure that it does not degenerate into a destructive force, but can instead become a constructive resource. This is not a hopeless endeavour. While non-liberal societies may be the victims of the fear they generate, there is a real chance that liberal societies can make positive use of the fear that is part of being human.
